TIZAN, ZANN EK LOULOU Tizan, Jane and the Wolf (The Defiant Girl)

Tizan’s sister, being too choosy, ends up marrying a wolf. The wolf takes them to live with him, but Tizan who is put to sleep outside hears the wolf and his friends dancing and singing at night about the meat they are fattening. He tells his sister and they fool the wolf into helping them to make a magic basket in which they escape. The wolf follows them to their parents’ home, where they manage to kill him and him. But the wolf’s ashes grows a pumpkin plant that sprouts a pumpkin. The pumpkin runs after Tizan until it is destroyed by a tortoise.

Tizan is apprended by a wolf who wants to eat him. But first he instructs Tizan to feed the bird he has hunted to his dog, then to eat his dog, then he the wolf will eat Tizan. That way he will eat all 3 in one go. A rat hears this and saves Tizan by throwing its voice and proposing that after the wolf eats Tizan, he will eat the wolf. The wolf runs away.

Wolf fattens Tizan up and goes get his pack for a feast. A snail escapes with Tizan under its shell. On the way, they meet all sizes of wolves coming for the feast. The snail sings about their meat hidden under its shell and some of the older wolves dance and sing along.

Tizan saves a princess from a seven-headed monster. But an Indian peasant usurps him and pretends to be the slayer. Tizan proves his authenticity by showing the seven tongues of the monster, which he had cut off, and seven drops of blood which he had dropped on his dog’s tongue. He is then acclaimed as the true monster slayer and the princess is married to him.

A king challenges all suitors to guess what his daughter has on her thigh. Many princes and young are made prisoner or have their heads cut off because they guessed wrong. The princess falls in love with tizan and shows him her thigh. So Tizan wins the princess.

Tizan seeks shelter in the King’s kitchen where a feast is being prepared. He is sucking a little twig. A curious servant asks to try it and finds it so sweet, he goes to tell the Princess about it. The Princess wants to try it too, and ends up swallowing it. Tizan refuses any compensation until he is offered the Kingdom and marries the Princess.

A pregnant wife asks for water from a pond without frogs. Her husband eventually finds such a pond that belongs to a wolf. The wolf makes a condition that the unborn child will be given to him when it is big enough to eat. The baby is Tizan who is born a magician. When the wolf comes for him, he tricks the wolf through disguise and escapes his mother through disguise.
