A boy’s mother dies and his father finds a new wife who has a daughter. The boy and the daughter live like brother and sister, but the stepmother is wicked and one day encloses the boy in the fireplace. Since it was the boy’s job to light the fire, when the girl had to do this task, she sings out that if the boy had been there, he would do it for her. The boy sings from behind the the fireplace, and they get him out of there. The wicked stepmother is sent away.
